Why do the Deccan Chargers lose match after match in the Indian Premier League?
The fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is reaching towards the closing stages after a number of thrilling encounters. There is no doubt that the fans have witnessed brilliant cricket in the tournament and its evidence is the fact that the event
is still wide open and most of the teams are still fighting to qualify for the play-off stage of the tournament.
However, there has been an exception in shape of Deccan Chargers, as the franchise has disappointed its followers. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 and company are reeling at the bottom of the points table with merely five points after 11 fixtures, which is a shocking result,
considering the fact that the team has the services of a number of high-profile players. Effectively, Deccan is out of contention in the current season as it has too much ground to catch up but with five more matches still to be played in the fifth season,
it has time to restore some pride.
Chargers won the second edition of IPL in 2009 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918. However, the franchise has witnessed a number of changes of personnel since then, which is surely not working well for the team.
The likes of Sangakkara himself, Cameron White, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 and Rusty Theron are rated among the most dangerous T20 players of the world and have the ability to change the complexion of a match single-handedly.
Some of the local players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at the highest stage of the game. This is the reason why, cricket analysts expected a better show from the Chargers.
Apart from Dhawan and White, none of Deccan’s batsmen have been able to perform up to the mark. Sangakkara played a stunning knock against Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 earlier in the tournament but he has generally been off-colour.
However, the biggest problem for Deccan has been its pathetic fielding. The Chargers have dropped a number of catches at crucial stages, which dearly cost the team. The coach of Chargers and former Australian cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Scott-Lehmann-c52487 is disappointed with
his team’s showings and especially with the efforts in the field.
On top of that, Lehmann feels that luck has not favoured his team as the Chargers have lost four matches on last balls.
Lehmann said, “I think our fielding has been an area of concern. Shoddy fielding let us down in many matches. Also, we've had four last-ball games which we lost. Those were matches that we could have won. I think the rub of the green didn't go our way.”
Former middle-order batsman is devastated with the fact that his team has refused to learn from the mistakes throughout the tournament.
"It is a young squad and sometimes it is disappointing that some of the players are making mistakes. We have just got to get better. So many times I had words with players. I have talked about what they need to do on the field. We are trying to get the best
from the players for some best cricket," the coach expressed his grief.
The close finishes goes to show that Deccan has been a touch unlucky but it also proves that Sangakkara and company have miserably failed to finish matches in the desired fashion and succumbed under pressure in tense situations.
