in the 16th over, but the Kings XI appeared comfortable, at 130 for 4.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Siddharth-Chitnis-c2525 (6) were the last men standing as the Kings XI’s innings ended
at 170 for five.
Chargers’ opener Dhawan was unable to make much of an impact and got his team off to a rocky start on their 171-run chase, as he found himself dismissed at 8 by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Harris-c1310 (30) however, managed
to rally the side, and followed up a 21-run partnership with wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parthiv-Patel-c2159 with a 39-run stand with Cameron White (8).
However, there was a surprise in store for the Chargers in the shape of Hussey, whose part-time spin proved to be particularly deadly, bringing the opponents’ innings crashing down. The Chargers were at 70 by the 11th over, when Hussey struck
– attempting to play a delivery by the 34-year-old all-rounder over extra cover, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parvinder-Awana-c80792.
4 deliveries later, the Chargers’ lost the crucial wicket of White as he was caught out at deep midwicket by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362, again off Hussey. White has bolstered the team’s innings in a big way during previous games, and his loss left the Chargers’ reeling at 71
for 4.
However, the Kings XI weren’t done with them yet, and four deliveries later, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 found himself dismissed at 4 by Kumar, with the team 97 runs short of the target by the 12th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhishek-Jhunjhunwala-c901 (19) attempted to rally their side, and managed to get a steady 6th wicket partnership going, which yielded 43 runs and propelled their side to 117 by the 17th over. However, Reddy’s departure
off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Piyush-c82317 Chawla was followed in the very next over by Jhunjhunwala’s dismissal via run out, and with the Chargers at 121 for 7 by the 18th over, and the Kings XI appeared all set for an easy victory – a prospect which the host team’s batsmen did
nothing to challenge.
Ashish Reddy (8) gave his wicket away without much of a fight, and was followed by Rusty Theron (7) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mishra-c871 (8), who were unable to do much with the few deliveries they had left to play. The Chargers’ were restricted to 145 by the end of 20 overs
– 25 runs short of the target.
The Kings XI put forth an effective bowling display, with Hussey registering impressive figures of 1- 0 -2 -2, and an economy rate of 2.00. Kumar also claimed 2, for 15, while Awana took 2 for 27. Chawla also chipped in with a useful wicket, but gave away
33 runs in 4 overs.
Mandeep Singh was awarded the Player of the Match award for his 75 off 48, and the Kings XI made their way up to the fifth place on the points table – a much-needed upward turn as the tournament playoffs approach.
Both teams will be facing each other again on May 13 in Mohali, but the bottom-of-the-table Chargers have another chance to improve before that encounter, as they prepare to battle it out with the table-topping http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils at the same venue on May 10.
