Deccan Chargers vs Kolkata Knight Riders – Indian Premier League 5 – Match Preview
Desperate for a victory which continues to elude them in the current ongoing 5th season of the Indian Premier, League, the Deccan Chargers will be looking to come out in full force against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack
on April 22, 2012.
Currently at the bottom of the points table, unable to win any of the 4 matches they have played so far, the Chargers may find themselves intimidated by the Knight Riders, who occupy the 5th spot on the points table, in addition to having emerged
victorious in 3 of the last six matches they’ve played, including an impressive 8-wicket win against the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 at Mohali, on April 18.
Among the many flaws in the Chargers’ performances this season is a poor fielding display – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 was given three lives in the Chargers’ most recent match against the Daredevils, and went on to score a match-winning 103 - which led coach Darren
Lehmann to compare their fielding to that of an Under-14 side.
The bowling attack has been similarly inconsistent, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians on April
9.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-John-Goodchild-c52940ainst the Chennai Super Kings on April 7) but has a tendency to be expensive – e.g. figures of 1 for 49 against
the Mumbai Indians. Home-grown http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ankit-Sharma-c1053 has only managed to claim one wicket in the season so far.
The Chargers will be opening their innings with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 (who will be going into the game with immense pressure, having failed to lead the team to any victories or register any remarkable individual scores) and Shikhar Dhawan, who has managed
to provide his team with solid starts. Wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel, coming in at number 3, also impressed in the previous match with a 45 off 27, and will prove to be a dependable batsman to follow up the openers.
In contrast, the Knight Riders' line-up boasts some formidable names. Despite this, their batting order has displayed an alarming lack of depth in the season so far. The top order boasts captain Gautam Gambhir, South African veteran Jacques Kallis and Kiwi
batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/YK-Pathan-c2815 has put forth perhaps the most disappointing performances in the season so far,
and will be looking to improve following scores such as 0, 7, 1 and 15.
The bowling attack is similarly impressive, with foreign imports http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lakshmipathy-Balaji-c72130 (5 scalps
in 3 innings), have also made vital contributions to the team, and are likely to give the opposing batsmen a hard time.
While the bottom-of-the-table Chargers appear to pose a very minor threat to the Knight Riders, a surprise comeback against Gambhir’s men could enable them to salvage some pride as the season progresses.
