I just saw something on the Discovery channel or the history channel yesterday about the discovery of the lost book of Nostradamus and they said basically the same thing, a great devastation is coming around 2010--specifically to the Catholic church which will fall--hey I'm not making this up, just saw it yesterday on one of these channels-usa

I heard it was suppose to be 2012, due to the Myan calender not continuing after that date. Supposedly, the Myans had done major calculations for their calender, going so far as to predict times for eclipses, etc. and have been right about most things and when they would happen.

However, the fact that they just "quit" calculating after December 21, 2012, has sparked concern and more doomsday theories.

Maybe they just got sick of it, assuming we'd all kill each other before then anyways, so why continue?

Anyway, that's just what I've heard. It'll be interesting to see what happens. (Personally, I don't really believe it, but what do I know? I failed math.)

The world is unlikely to end on that day.  In fact, the whole year, 2012, will, in 2013, be known as "The year that the world didn't end".  Predictions of this sort happen all the time.

2012 has tons of claims, though.  Planet X will hit the Earth, the Mayan calendar runs out, and so on.  The astronomy related claims, like Planet X certainly will not happen.

But the Earth will end one day.  You heard it first here.  I'd like to see it, from a safe distance.  I expect it will come in billions of years, and witnessing the end of the world will mean that i've made it billions of years.  Lots of time for my hobbies.

The myth or bad rumor is 2012...but...in reality..it's only the Mayan calander that ends that day...not the world.

The world was supposed it end on 06/06/06, the world was supposed to end in 2000. Do you seriously believe this? I mean, people are coming up with days and keep postponing the end.

The Bible says the end will come unexpectedly but God will save his followers. So you better be a devout Christian and a good person or else you're not going to saved.

2012 is just the revealing of the 'antichrist' or the 'man of lawlessness' at the middle of what Jews and Christians call the 7 year Tribulation. Many pagan cultures (Sumerians, Babylonians, Cherokee, Hopi, Chinese I-Ching, Mayans, Egyptians, Celts, Satanists, etc...) celebrate this evil event called "the abomination that causes desolation". When will Yeshua Ha'Mashiach (Jesus) come? Only God Himself knows, but soon.

Are you starting a new hoax on your own, or have you made a typo in your attempt to participate in the Big 2012 Hoax Off.

Any "prediction" about the end of the world for December 21, 2012 are recent inventions (most of them not even based on anything, scientific or otherwise).

The only thing special about that date is that an old calendar, used by mesoamerican astronomer, arrives at the end of a long count, and begins a new one on that date.

This was planned on purpose as

1.  The Winter Solstice was New Year's Day for the Mayan, and most of the northern hemisphere civilizations.

2. They knew that the solstice position for that year would be in the thickest part of the Milky Way (what we call the Galactic equator).

Had the Mayan civilization been still in its prime, they would probably be preparing wild festivities (somewhat like what we had for January 1, 2000, despite the Y2k scare).
