I believe that something on that date will happen that's going to kill a whole lot of people, but not necessarily be the end of the world forever. The mayans, who made the calendar that predicted that date, predicted a lot of other things too and were always right. So yea, i think something will happen Dec. 12, 2012.

No, it is all lies. Every word.

But here is what might happen.

Late in December 2012 the number of questions asked about 2012 will reach a critical point. First Y!A will go offline since it will be swamped by young teenagers trying to ask the same question that had already been asked and answered 12,000 or more times by mid 2008. YouTube will also fail. The History Channel headquarters will burn down, the fire being set by outraged astronomers or overheated telephone services, nobody will ever know which. Then Google and soon after Alta Vista, Dogpile and all the other search engines will collapse. The number of questions having reached a critical mass, they will form an information black hole and the entire internet will be sucked in.

Here is what will happen. DVDs will be junked. Books will go to the recyclers, many websites will be taken down. Some of the main promoters of this rubbish might get sued in court. After a few years when there is a new bunch of impressionable kids on the net, the websites will go up again with the same lies, predicting the end of the world for 2023. This time it will not be the Mayans, it will be inscriptions found in Borobudur or India or China or somewhere else that few people know much about.

The world WILL NOT end on Dec 21 2012...

It is just a myth which mysteriously propagates (mostly because of the History Channel and YouTube)

The interpretation of the Mayan calendar thing is just plain wrong – it’s just the end of a cycle. And since calendars are based on astronomical motions of one kind or another, they are inherently cyclic. Our western calendar ends on December 31st every year!

Planet X/Nibiru does not exist. If it did we would have found it by now. We have mapped the sky in the infrared several times in the last 25 years (including WMAP, IRAS etc), and it would show up. It is not there. We would have found it if it existed. So all the nonsense about the return of Nibiru/Planet X is just that – nonsense

Furthermore, at the distance it must be to hit us in a little over 4 years, it would be reflecting enough light from the sun to be detectable.

Thanx to previous question from Brant and answer from bikenbeer2000, we know how bright it should be by now – it would have a apparent magnitude of 7.4 – which would not be visible with the naked eye – but easily visible in a modest telescope and would have been spotted by amateur. If there was a conspiracy to keep it quiet – it would be out of the bag by now.

Ask someone where it is supposed to be, get a pair of binoculars and look for it.

Furthermore, it is supposed to be in orbit around a brown dwarf. We have detected brown dwarfs at much larger distances than the alleged distance of the sun’s mythical brown dwarf companion, so why haven’t we seen this “star:?

The videos on YouTube that purport to have evidence are disingenuous to say the least. They put together pictures of other objects (e.g. Jupiter, comets even a dust shell around a distant red giant star) and try to scare people. There is no validity to their claims. They present NO EVIDENCE at all.

As for the predicted catastrophes – the most popular one seems to be the Pole Shift!

The sun will have a pole reversal that year – it has one every 11 years – it is not a problem.

The earth’s magnetic field is less predictable –

but is still nothing to worry about: we know that the magnetic field does not collapse in the process of reversing polarity- if it did, there would be major extinctions that correlate with the geologic record for pole reversals - there is no correlation.

which tells you that the precise alignment of the solstice with the Galactic equator was in 1998. It did not cause problems. The Galactic Equator is purely a human construct – not a physical thing. And we do not get any closer to the black hole in the center, which remains approximately 8000 parsecs (26,000 light years) away.

personally i don't believe in the date time type thing . i have seen a few specials on the history channel and discovery about this subject. it is eerie that several cultures see this as a cut  off point for our existence on this planet. i guess make of  it what you will. i had a very religious upbringing, and some things don't drift away from you. i don't attend church anymore but still have a general knowledge of the bible. the bible says that no man knows the time of the return of jesus which a lot of people consider the end of times. after the flood of Noah's time god promised to never again destroy life on earth. although many cultures see this date as a doomsday time,could they really see into the future? or maybe is it just that they couldn't fathom life going on that far. but like i said earlier it is eerie that multiple cultures see this as a end of time. is it possible that the winner of this election is the antichrist  of the book of revelations and is ushering man to his day of judgment before god?

Scientists don't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, other than the solstice, which happens every year.

None of the "predicted" happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. "Planet X" and "Nibiru" simply don't exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn't line up with the galactic centre; it's 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.

All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don't take any of it seriously!

i dont know who started that rumor but it is all a lie.

god chooses what day to end this world, and it is absolutely not 12-12-2012. it could be tonight, or tommorrow, or even even next week.
