How do i improve my setting?

I am the team setter, so i must apparently be the best on the team.

But once out of like ten times, i ll mess up, and the ball will roll off my fingers and not go very far. otherwise, my setting is high and with low spin.

And is it possible to do a backset with no spin?

One of my hitters can't handle spin. I don't know why, but she just can't. Ever.

  1. just to get this straight youre not the best on the team just because youre the setter! and to even say means your not. just to let you know. i am a setter too and i am not the best player on the team. i would say the best player on the team is our middle hitter. she has an awesome serve, her hits go straight down and hard, and she can play anywhere.

  2. Your hitter has a problem between their ears.  They hit a set with spin and they hit it out.  So they think that every time the set has spin, they will hit it out.

The key to setting is getting every ball on your forehead.  The high outside set gets a long and high follow through forward.  The quick middle set gets a shorter and higher follow through and the back set gets a high, long follow through only in back of you.  Please make sure you get every ball right on top of your forehead.  If you get the ball more in front of your face, you will have trouble doing a legal back set.  If you get the ball in back of your head, you will not be able to set the ball in front of you.  And middle blockers love to see where the ball is coming down on your head to get a jump on where the set is going.

Work hard on getting the ball directly on top of your forehead and you should be able to get your sets where you want them.  (If you move your hands at the last minute, the ball should hit you on the top of your forehead.

  3. First of all, one out of ten is not bad for a setter. Nobody could be perfect. Don't force yourself to be the best.

Second, an outside hitter should never worry about low-spin, but you do not want to blame her if your goal is to become the best. Take it as your motivation. The "best setter" should always make no-spin set.

Yes, it IS possible to do backset with no spin. Actually beach volleyball requires every overhanded set to have no spin. The way they wipe out spin is to buffer (or call "suck") the ball with your fingers when contacting the ball, not pushing it out immediately but sucking it in before pushing it out. It takes some time to get there without being called a carry or hold/throw. You want to contact the ball above your forehead and force your opponent to guess where you want to set the ball. Bend your knees before the contact and push the ball out by extending your legs and arms **but not to extend your fingers** so that the ball won't "slip away".

Keep the hard work, and you will be the best.

  4. just because ur te setter doesnt mean ur th best on the team....our best player is a middle and team capitan...since i got that straightned out...

u need to practice ur setting at home...let some1 throw it up and u can back set it...the only way to improve ur condsistency is to practice more
