  1. Trees drop their leaves in response to abscissic acid build up which is triggered by seasonal changes. A deciduous tree is adapted to lose as much foliage as possible so as to 'hibernate' over the winter period. This reduces the trees metabolism so as to greatly decrease energy needed to sustain life . Instead of photosynthesising over winter to provide energy the plant uses its stored reserves.


  2. The plants which fall their  leaves  annually called deciduous plants.
