Decision to end long relationship with Worcestershire has not been easy – Vikram Solanki – Cricket News Update
Former England batsman Vikram Solanki, has said that decision to end his twenty-year-long association with Worcestershire County Cricket Club was not easy for him.
“I'm incredibly grateful to Worcestershire for giving me my chance all of those years ago,” said the 36-year-old top-order batsman, after signing a two-year deal with Surrey.
“I have many, many fond memories with the club both on and off the pitch with players, staff and supporters alike and the decision to end our long relationship has not been easy,” he added further.
About his deal with Surrey, the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 batsman, who made his first-class debut with Worcestershire CCC back in 1995, said that an unsure future at New Road prompted him to discuss opportunities with interested counties, and the search finally ended with the right-hander signing a two-year deal with Surrey.
"In recent weeks, with my contract ending and the club unsure of their direction for me, I've been able to discuss opportunities with interested counties. It's been from these discussions that Surrey CCC have offered me an exciting chance to finish my career at the Kia Oval.”
Solanki’s move to The Oval will bolster a batting line-up that has been depleted after losing three of its first choice batsmen; Tom Maynard, to a tragic death, Mark Ramprakash to retirement, and the regular skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rory-Hamilton-Brown-c2366, to an indefinite compassionate leave. Solanki’s leadership qualities will also be valuable for the county.
There might be some raised eyebrows at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851’s move, as Solanki, 36, is on the wrong side of age, and also his form has been Lukewarm so far this season, as he averages just 26.16 with the bat from nine championship games. However, he has had an impressive 2011 season, which saw him scoring over 1,100 runs at an average exceeding 40. He has also been impressive in this year’s Clydesdale Bank 40 competition, averaging in excess of 40.
Though set to move to The Oval, Solanki will stay with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 CCC until the end of the ongoing 2012 season, and the right-hander assured to give his absolute best to the county.
