Declan Kidney announces Ireland’s 43-man provisional squad for 2011 Rugby World Cup
Ireland national rugby union team’s head coach, Declan Kidney, has announced Ireland’s 43-man provisional squad for the upcoming 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC). The squad was announced in a statement released on the Irish Rugby Union’s website on Friday, June
17.
Kidney has included four uncapped players in the squad and excluded three experience players due to their respective injuries.
The four uncapped players include Munster’s Felix Jones and Conor Murray, and Connacht’s Mike McCarthy, and Brett Wilkinson. Shane Horgan from Leinster, alongside Ulster’s Ian Humphries and Nevin Spence are not included in the provisional squad due to injuries.
Shane Horgan, Ian Humphries and Nevin Spence are suffering from Knee and shoulder injuries respectively.
Declan Kidney further added, “There are players who we have identified as part of the larger Rugby World Cup squad who will not be in the first camp and will be based with their provincial and club fitness staff, but that may change as we go through June
and July, so none of that larger group are necessarily out of contention for the final squad”.
Kidney has also announced three camps in June and July that would focus mainly on the physical fitness and player conditioning. This will be followed by three matches of the Guinness Summer Series against the Scotland, France and Connacht at Edingburgh,
Bordeaux and Dublin respectively.
