Declan Kidney insists on moving on from Wales match controversy – Six Nations update
Declan Kidney, the Irish coach has asked his side to let go the frustration and anger from the previous match loss against Wales. Ireland was thrashed by Wales with 19-13 in a controversial match. Ireland’s very last hopes for title for Six Nations faded
away with the defeat at the Millennium Stadium.
After a try by Mike Phillips was wrongly permitted to be counted as a score, it left the Irish with a sour taste of the match. The controversial try was scored after a swift lineout and a majority of rugby analysts believe that the try should have been barred
from being put on scoreboard for numerous reasons. Peter Allen the touch judge, wasn’t able to spot any breach of laws in the try though.
Ireland was exasperated by the decision and protested with the referee too. On the hand, Kidney insists his players t display some patience and character by replying through their performance against England on their Six Nations final fixture on Saturday
on Dublin.
Kidney said, “Our job is to get ready for the next fixture. It's as uncomplicated and atrocious as that. If we keep looking at the past we'll never get anywhere. If there's an hour or two of that, let's do it.”
He courageously added, “But then we have to get on with it and then get ourselves prepared for the upcoming fixture. What doesn't destroy you makes you stronger, these are the test. I don't believe it will be tough to get this competence of player all set
for England.”
The 50th minute score by Phillips turned out to be the significant try and made every head turn towards the referee. The consequences of Allan’s bungle left Rory Best in suspicions and doubts. Best admits that that move was actually the thrust swinger and
got Wales’ tails up. It made a major alteration in the approach of player on the field from both sides.
Best optimistically said, “Everyone has seen the footage and it speaks for itself. But we feel we had enough chances before and after the dubious decision that it shouldn't really have mattered.”
If Ireland loses to England, then it will be the worst performance by the team ever. England, on the other hand have a clean sheet so far and have thrashed every team on their way with less troubles. Ireland’s side is looking shocked at the moment but the
emotions for revenge might make a difference.
The second worst performance that Ireland gave was in 2008, when they won just two matches and it got their coach sacked. Eddie O’Sullivan was already being criticized for a terrible World Cup one year prior to the campaign.
Best believes what has happened so far should be ended on a good note. The match against the Grand Slam chasing side will add a lot to the flavour and last chance for his side to restore the morale and prestige that controversially got stolen by Wales.
He said, “England are on an immense roll at the present time so it's a genuine occasion to get back to winning ways and achieve our first RBS Six Nations victory this year at the Aviva Stadium. Apart from of what happened against Scotland, it's a match that
we badly want to win.”
This will be the last match for Ireland before they enter the World Cup in September. They surely want to end it on a good note, leaving players boosted for the World Cup.
