Declan Potts excels in Men’s 400m freestyle heats: Day three - Oceania Swimming Championships
Declan Potts of Australia excelled in the qualification rounds of Men’s 400m freestyle on third day of the 2012 Oceania Swimming Championships in Noumea, New Caledonia on Thursday, May 31.
Potts displayed his phenomenal efforts in the mediocre distance freestyle event and met expectations of his supporters by snaring the top qualification spot of the event.
Potts continued his nerve-wrecking pace throughout the event and hit the finishing end with the timing of 3 minutes and 59.57 seconds.
His unmatchable pace was trailed by Trent Grimsey of Australia, who stayed nearly four seconds apart and qualified into the playoff as second best finisher with the timing of 4 minutes and 03.26 seconds.
Third fastest qualification spot of the discipline was secured by Thomas Dahlia of France, who was nearly 3.40 seconds apart and appeared on the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 06.62 seconds.
Dahlia was chased by Grimsey’s teammate, Rhys Mainstone, who stayed nearly a half body length behind and finished fourth in the discipline with an effort of 4 minutes and 07.05 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed exhausting efforts of New Zealand’s Isaac Foote, who stayed almost two body lengths slower from his foregoing finisher and produced a timing of 4 minutes and 09.89 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth spot of the discipline was secured by Foote’s teammate, Troy Balvert, who was only 0.31 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 10.20 seconds.
Balvert was trailed by Jacob Urbano of Hawaii, who was 0.67 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall for seventh position by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 10.87 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was obtained by Emmanuel Limozin of France, who remained nearly five seconds apart and emerged on the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 15.48 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all planned events while the finalists will face each other in the playoff to prove their mettle for the top spot on the podium. Furthermore, the championship will conclude on June 1.
