Declaration Of War stamps authority in Queen Anne Stakes – Horseracing news
Declaration Of War showed authority in the Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1), winning the race by almost one length.
Everyone was looking at Animal Kingdom, who entered the competition with a starting price of 5 to 4 and was the favourite to succeed. He was unable to make an impression though and finished 11th overall, which was disappointing for his fans. He was in very
good form and had delivered a couple of decent results for his team, but things did not work out in his favour.
Even if the young challenger would have been fighting at the front, he would have found it hard to weather the storm from Declaration Of War, who seemed unmatchable in the race. He was priced 15 to 2 and was seen as one of the potential candidates to fight
for a victory.
The four-year-old colt was unable to start off nicely, but he had plenty of time to recover because of the overall distance, which was one mile. He made up some places as the race progressed and was in a very strong position towards the final furlong. Although
some of the other stallions were also looking good, they failed to stop the winning horse in the end.
The victorious rider Joseph O'Brien said after the race, “We were a bit disappointed after Newbury but we had him at 100 per cent today. I was going very well, it got a little bit tight but he quickened up and idled when I got there. He's a very good horse.
it's nice to start off on a good foot.”
On the other hand, Declaration Of War’s trainer Aidan O’Brien stated, “He had an easy win at Leopardstown first time then he wasn't ready for the Lockinge and has made great progress since. He has a lot of speed, we waited as long as we could. It doesn't
get any better than this, it's the Olympics of Flat racing.”
There were only two races when the American stallion failed to finish on top of the table, but he has been superb other than that. His confidence level is good right now, which means that he will definitely be a force to reckon with in the remaining half
of the season.
