Decline bench press?

Is it true that the decline bench press permits the use of more weight than any other bench press variation? If so, that must make it an underrated exercise?

  1. yes - and you can try by yourself...

no need to compare weights, compare repetitions:

choose a weight that you are comfortable with and do as many reps on the flat bench press as you can, of course count the reps ;)...

then rest long enough, at least 5-7 minutes and do as many reps as you can on the decline...

you will see that you can do more reps on the decline press

  2. I can bench 360 on the flat and push nearly 400 on the decline. It's because you can also put your shoulders and traps into the lift.

  3. The decline targets the lower portion of your chest, while incline targets upper and flat tragets middle region, you can do more because more muscles get invloved i.e traps and deltoids. hope that helps.

  4. Be careful when doing this, make sure you can handle the wieght if you are doing this alone. If its very heavy have a spotter.

  5. i unno seems like it for me

it really helps for the bulky look tho

  6. Yes, I think my decline is slightly stronger than my flat (same weight, but by 1 rep). It's somewhat under-rated, yes.
