  1. The forward reaction doesn't take place to a great extent until the temperature reaches around 1000 C.

  2. CaCO3(s) --> CaO(s) + CO2(g)

    Think about it.  How many many marble statues from ancient Rome have evaporated into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide?  Exactly none.  This reaction doesn't occur at room temperature, but it will occur at high temperatures, 500C and greater.

    ========== Follow up ===========

    Heat is energy transferred to or from the reaction.   Heat is NEVER classified as a catalyst.   A catalyst speeds up a reaction by providing an alternate pathway with a lower activation energy.  Adding heat to a reaction simply increases the energy of the reaction, it does nothing to lower the activation energy.

  3. Use heat as the catalyst for your reaction.
