I am 14 years old. My room is pink, something VERY similar to this colour:

I originally wanted to re-paint my room to a blue-ish/green, but the pink was just painted 2 years ago and my Mom doesn't want to have to go through the trouble all over again. I understand that.

It is a fairly small bedroom. I am looking for a way to MATURE the room so I can grow into it. What colours would go well?

Right now I have a white comforter from IKEA which has purple, orange, pink and red polka dots on it. I would like to get rid of it and go for a more mature look.

I also have a white desk and a tall birch dresser from IKEA.

Last but not least-- my closet is kind of small, I'm not really using it, and never really have. What could I put in there? My desk won't fit and without my dresser in the room, it looks plain! IDEAS!!

Basically, I would like Something that I'll still love when I'm 18.

Any ideas are GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

  1. i just had this same problem! lol

so basically all i did was get a new comforter that i absolutely loved from ikea! and i made sure that it wasnt really girly and didnt have too much going on so that it didnt look little kiddish. and i also did cologe on my desk and i think it is sweet because it is more grown up and it adds something to my room so its not plain, but it takes a lot of work so make sure you know what you are getting into. i also reorganized my stuff so that my bed is sideways and i have a sitting area behind it. it makes my room look bigger! and recently i asked my mom to take my dresser out of my room so i could just use the closet. so she did and my room doesnt look empty because there is still the desk and my bed and that little sitting area. :)

    i hope i helped somewhat.

and good luck finding the perfect way to do your room!

you could get a corkboard and put it up on your wall and decorate that

see if your mom will let u paint the white dresser with brown and pink lines

  3. depends on what wolors u like and what ur into. i have to agree with the first post, brown does go well and it seems to add a touch of maturity. brown pink and white would look wonderful overall. try target for a nice bedspread, or ikea, walmart, pbteen, anything like that. If possible, i'd look for some brown butterfly wall decals or stencils and put those on ur walls in random places. Could u provide a link to the dresser? it isn't nessacry really, if u have a closet, and u could get a nice wall mirror and add a corkboard, i love those, they come in handy and can add a lot od personality to a room.

just be creative with everything u do. posters are good too of course, and are easy to change if u want something different. you could even make ur own, or hang up some artwork, whether done by u or ur friends, or somtehing bought, u can get realtively cheap ones at some craft stores or other places, target or walmart. framed of course, that goes with the posters too, best to frame them for a more mature look. You could get organizers for ur clostet to make more use out of it.

    ^_^

  4. well, for the comforter...you may want to try to get something that isn't too saturated in color, and has an embroidered pattern or some kind of texture to it. I know that west elm may help you with this (might be a tad pricey though, just search your local stores) adding curtains is also a great way to finish a room (adds some softness too! lol). you might also want to add an area rug around your bed just to define the area. have you ever thought about getting a small bookshelf or some floating shelves to display some of your items? this could be a great way for you to add some personality to your room! i would probably stay away from adding too many different colors in your accessories because you don't want it to look too out there, so just make sure to get items that work well with your walls ( i would advise you to choose  2 different accent colors to splash around your room in the form of accessories!) lastly, remember to have fun and to choose items that you really love to put in your room because you will be seeing it every  day! hope this helps! =)

p.s. try looking at the accessories at urban outfitters- they're really funky & unique!
