Decorating a bag. Need HELP!!!

I plan on decorating a bag but the plain little canvas ones at machaels look cheap when you use emm as purses any suggestions?

browse your local thrift shops. Look for clearance sales at retail stores--right now is the perfect time--all the fall and winter stuff is comming in and the summer stuff is marked way way down.
