Question:

Decorating a room (needs to be budget-friendly)!

I have a spare bedroom in my home that is painted and ready to go. All it has is a beige futon, and I'm hoping to turn it into a game room. I want to know everyone's ideas. I'm on an extremely tight budget, so please tell me if you know a way to do things instead of buying them, because they tend to be less pricey. I want the room to be sleek, chic and sophisticated. All I have for ideas is TV, Wii, fish bowl (cool idea), and lamp. I also have a lamp and wanna give it a fresh new look, and i want it to look like a tall lamp with a cylinder paper top.

Thank you to everyone for your replies!!!

PS: Also, color-wise, I'm thinking orange and green because of the strong contrast to the beige

  1. http://www.RockYourWall.com has a lot of cool things like magnetic dry erase tiles in any color you can think of, cork tiles, accessories, and so much more to create a custom, cool and functional style tile bulletin board!

  2. You don't need to go nuts with those colours (they are fantastic colours though) just a splash here and there will look fantastic, check out this orange room (wait for the "after" picture to show up!)  http://www.hgtv.ca/homeheist/Galleries/g...

There isn't a LOT of orange but you are left with an impression of an orange room, you could do the same with your scheme, either cover the beige with green or orange or make cushions for the beige lounge, the rest of the furniture can be white or beige-ish and just add highlights of your accents like with rugs or bean bags, or curtains or art.

In the second pic of the link above they have light boxes up on the wall, if you happen to be able to get your hands on some plug in flourescent light fittings you can mount on the wall you can cover the inside of the light covering with a green or orange for cool light boxes, or just make your lamp shade one of those colours, it doesn't need to be expensive, lastly, what about an orange or green feature wall, should be no more than $20 in paint for just one wall. Or if you can find a seriously fab wallpaper and know how to wallpaper you could do a feature wall in that, check this out for a feature wall!!!!   http://extras.missoulian.com/homestyle/h...

This is all ikea stuff because if you are on a budget that is one of the best places to find cool items, all up with a couple of the $7 shelves, a chair, 2 storage cubes on castors, 3 of the $5 rugs, and 1 hanging storage you would be forking over $66 with the items listed below not a massive amount of money...

This rug is just $8.99 from Ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produc...

and this one I bought in blue about 4 years ago, it is finally getting wobbly around the edges, it is a bath mat, but I used it in my sons room (its a small room) and machine wash them a LOT (Never wash them in hot water it shreds the rubber backing, warm or cold wash only) anyway, they aren't huge but they are great spots of colour on the floor and very cheap at $4.99 ea  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produc...

    ...

Everyone has these now but they are only $4.99 and come in your colours   http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produc...

This seat is sort of lime green and just $19.99 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produc...

and for wall storage here are 3, from $7 to $20 in green

Cheap storage in green $5.99 and it is on castors!  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produc...

  3. seeing as you like the orange green look how about this -- way back in the seventies there was a time when the styling was semi hippy intergrated with mainstream

    - using that style allows you to make so much of the stuff yourself

    - ie hanging bookshelves made from scape boards and thin rope - these have drilled holes that the rope goes through two holes each end of board as many as you like - thread rope one at time knotting under each level til you get to bottom then knot and fray -oops- make sure one length rope is enough to go from left side to right side - two in all - making a loop at top ---

orange green and beige also go well with browns - if you can get hold o a few brown plastic crates they can stack in step fashion for interesting wall unit for games and books etc --

Macrame net( make yourself) hung from ceiling can be versitile -

i you want it sleeker go with high gloss paint and paint lamp bases and furniture etc to all match - you can paint all sorts of thing like vases, tables,  saving heaps o money

  4. Orange color with beige i think nice combination color for your idea, for add your idea maybe you can put a stand lamp or http://swag-lamps.blogspot.com/ for decorative light for dramatic impresion in your room.

    thanks - http://www.asesidea.com

  5. Orange and green are two of my favorite colors but they contrast a little so you may want to pick one or the other because the room might look at little too busy. I think orange would be great with a dark armoire and a fun orange and yellow cushion for your futon. Or you could check out DIY network online and see if they have any fun easy ideas and ways to  make a room look "sleek, chic, and sophisticated"!! Be yourself and be creative!!
