Question:

Decorating a victorian house...?

I'm in the process of purchasing my favorite house in the world, an 1860's victorian house. My husband is going to do all the restoring and I'm doing all the decorating. I just wish that I had pictures of various Victorian or "country cottage" style rooms. Are there any good websites that showing pictures like this? I like antique designs, and I like either clean bright colors & styles (lilacs, baby blues, crystal, white wood) or dark victorian styles ( plums, burgundy, hunter green, cast iron, dark wood) so either would be great. I want to see all my options so I can get it together here. So what are some good websites to see ideas? Has anyone out there restored a Victorian house who can tell me about it?

  1. I just found this website a few  weeks ago:

    http://victoriana.com

They seem to cover a broad range of topics.  Some of it is the foo-foo Victorian stuff that's not really period-appropriate, but you can sift through the website and get some good ideas that you'll really like.

    You can also go to

    http://www.houseblogs.net

which is a sort of community of DIYers and homeowners who blog about their experiences while restoring their homes.  You can search by house type and location, too.
