Question:

Decreasing the value of my car?

I recently purchased an '86 Pontiac Fiero. The radio in the car doesn't work. Someone told me to go to the Pontiac dealership and get the original radio repaired, because if I replace the original radio with a new one it would decrease the value of my car... Is this true?

  1. if you get a HD radio or one that was better than the one before, it would probably increase the value of the car to the average buyer.

if you sell to a collector it would decrease the value because they're interested in the original beauty of the car.

however, there are not as many car collectors/fanatics so you would probably be safe buying a new radio

  2. to a purist you would as it will no longer be all factory matching but in my book it's your car and you should do what you want, you will never be able to order a new radio from GM for that but you could probably have it repaired at a electronics shop someplace if you so desire, cheaper than buying something aftermarket.

  3. If the car is classed as a "classic car" changing any of the original features will dramtically reduce its value the best option is to pay the price to have the original one fixed to keep on the safe side.

  4. just because cars that have all the original equipment hold better value than cars with aftermarket additions

some people who are into older vehicles only want ones that are all original

  5. no, because ultimatly, putting in a newer/ better sound system or deck will only increase the value of the car...

  6. it will affect the value of it if you go to re-sale it and someone wants one that's all original other wise it wont hurt it much, but i would get an original one if i could, there are people who are collecting those now,it will only affect it at re-sale time,as long as you own and drive it ,it wont affect the value of it to you any,but i wouldn't cut the dash up to install an after market radio in it,those can be mounted in different places on those car,so that it wont hurt it none, good luck with it.

  7. The only thing you could do to decrease the value of a 86 Fiero would be to set it on fire. Its a Fiero, it will never be worth more than it is right now.

  8. well it wouldn't be original anymore and I think thats why people would say that.... But honestly on the other hand you are making it better. it couldn't possibly devalue it that much if it did. especially for a radio. I have a 1971 bug and I got a new radio for it... it's not devalued by any means.

  9. if your keeping it all original yes it will lower the price of the car.ive installed one in a fiero under the seat, and kept the original in the dash.
