  1. Get Overcoming Dyslexia by Sally Shaywitz. It is a book that cuts threough all the crapola!

  2. Interesting choice of words "deep" dyslexia.  A dyslexic person may experience perceptual problems and thus mix up letters and words.  Dyslexia is a product of thought.  Dyslexics are picture thinkers.  They process information through pictures in their mind.  The letters are sound symbols, not pictures, so they can cause confusion in the mind.

The words that dyslexics find problematic are the little words or sight words ( but, they, it, are, is, and, by, etc...).  Can you make a picture for them?  A solution to this confusion is to "concentrate harder" which only takes the dyslexic into "deeper" confusion.  Make sense???  (That is why I find your description of dyslexia interesting...are you dyslexic?)

There are 37 characteristics of dyslexia and a person can exhibit as few as 10 and be considered "mildly" dyslexic.

Here are some of the many names for dyslexia:

-A learning disability in reading can have many labels:

-dyseidetic sometimes called "surface dyslexia" or "visual dyslexia"(generally has a good grasp of phonetic concepts, but great difficulty with whole word recognition and spelling).

-dysphonetic (has difficulty connecting sounds to symbols, and might have a hard time sounding out words). Another label is sometimes called "auditory" dyslexia, or "auditory processing disorder" because it relates to the way the person processes the sounds of language.

-word blindness, visual aphasia, alexia, perceptual distortions,Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome (sometimes called Irlen Syndrome)

-dyscalculia is difficulty in learning or comprehending math

-dysgraphia is difficulty in handwriting. People with dysgraphia often can write on some level, but often lack co-ordination, and may find other fine motor tasks such as tying shoes difficult.
