Deep line under child's eyes due to allergies?

Both of my sons (ages 1 & 5) saw their ENT yesterday. He called the bags/lines under their eyes some specific term and I have forgotten what it was that he said. He said that the lines were due to allergies. I have scoured the internet and have gotten mostly info about beauty products, etc.

Looking for the name of those lines/bags due to allergies.

  1. No, the medication won't make the bags/lines go away, since it's just suppressing the reaction, rather than actually getting rid of the allergy.  In order to change the physical symptoms, you have to either eliminate the allergens from their diets or environments, or desensitize the boys to the allergens.

It would seem wise to have your sons tested at some point for allergies.  Some of the tests that are done, though, can be traumatic for little people (like the skin prick/scratch test), so if that's what's recommended in this situation, you might want to wait until they're a little older.

On the other hand, the RAST (for classical, or IgE-mediated, allergies) and the ELISA (for non-IgE, or intolerances/delayed allergies) are both blood tests that just require a blood draw.

Again when the boys are older, they may be candidates for immunotherapy to desensitize them to their allergens.  Many people have had great success with this, but it requires a lot of shots and discipline (i.e., not suitable for young children).

You could do an elimination diet for food allergies, which wouldn't require lab work.  A great book that discusses this is Doris Rapp's Is This Your Child? Discovering and Treating Unrecognized Allergies in Children and Adults (http://www.amazon.com/This-Your-Child-Do...  This book is a classic.  It actually has photos of the eye wrinkles, along with other physical signs of allergies, on the back cover.  Dr. Rapp covers environmental allergies in her book as well.

Also for the elimination diet, you can look at http://www.beyond-food-allergies.com/eli... to get you started.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Allergic shiners if they r like dark circles ...and Denni-morgan lines if they have this extra skin fold under their lower eye lid!
