  1. There are several different "calls" for deer.  Some work better than others and some require a lot of practice to get it right.  I have successfully used a grunt call, a fawn bleet call and rattling antlers.  All have to be used with prudence.  Too much calling or too loud with the grunt call or bleet call will scare the deer away.  On the other hand, you can't get too loud or wild with rattling antlers.  The noiser the better.  You rattle the antlers as loudly as you can, kick the ground, beat the brush and make as much noise as you can.  You are simulating two bucks fighting.  You can even include a buck snort call along with the rattling.  It sounds easy, and it really is once you know how to do it.  In all cases, it is best to get a DVD showing how to use each of these calls and then start mimicking what you see.  When you are rattling, as soon as you are done rattling, put thed antleres down and get your gun ready.  A buck that is rattled up will usualy come in at a run to see who is in his territory and you want to be ready to take your shot.  The grunt call is done using your hand over the end to sort of throttle and shape the sound.  You want to be just loud enough for the deer to hear you but that is all.  The mistake many people make is either calling too loud or calling too frequently.  The bleet call is a can that works like an old fashioned baby doll cry.  You tip it over and it makes the sound of a fawn or doe bleeting, depending on which call you buy.  There is little that you have to do with the volume but you must not over use the call.  A good DVD is indispensable when learing to use any of these calls.

    Good hunting!  Glad to see another lady taking to the field.

  2. I use the can, and the little can. They work for me.

    May I warn you that as a new hunter, It is common to over use these things. Just get near an area where deer walk past, get in a tree, and hunt at least 5 days, all day. I am sure if you mind your motion and scent, you will see deer. If not, go to another location, and try again.

    Good luck!!!

  3. Well, in SC you can hunt over bait, no call needed. If you can't in your state, you should scout your hunting area for trails, bedding areas, and food/water sources. You also should build/buy/find a good deer stand that gives you cover while hunting. Keep quiet and alert and stay down wind. The last thing you will need is a deer call, as a matter of fact I have never used one. But I have heard that deer are attracted to snoring.

  4. There are only two calls on the market that I will use, without fear that the deer will be spooked by them- the grunt call and the doe bleat call that is the can type- both used together, sometimes produces results.

  5. I went to my boyfriends deer stand and put some vanilla body spray on and got a 8 pointer, they said it couldn't be done. I proved them wrong!*

  6. I have tried many types of calls and used antlers to rattle for deer but what worked best and never spooked a deer (if done right) was a fawn bleat call. Bucks came to the fawn bleat as did doe’s. In fact predators such as coyotes, bobcats and mountain lion also responded to it, if you used the bleat call in distress.

    The thing to remember is to not over call. I have heard hunters calling over and over for hours this is not the way to call. You have to pause between calls, here is a link on that and videos how to;

    There are many brands just go with a well known one.
