Deer hunting in Charlotte, NC area?

I am potentially going to be relocating down to the northern Charlotte, NC area from Northern NJ. Every year I look forward to my favorite time of the year, deer season. Does anyone know anything about deer hunting down in this area. Up North, my buddies and I hunt on private land that we own and live on. I have never hunted public land because it seems liek it would be too crowded and dangerous. Is taht all I will be able to do down there? Are there hunting clubs I could hook up with some guys? Obviously, I am not going to know that many people down there at first, but I love hunting. Any info anyone has to share I would really appreciate it.

  1. well do you just want to hunt there because Raleigh there lot of woods and i see lot of wildlife around here some are in neighborhoodes and there lot of open area so if you love hunting so much yowouldn'tnt mind spending some gas and were I live there a hunt club around were I am and lot in mountains so it might be sometime you might go there if your not willing to spend money for gas

  2. If you dislike hunting on public land, when you relocate to NC, go to the local archery shops and locally owned sporting goods stores. There you should be able to locate a lease that is needing a member or two. Every year members are needed in most clubs for some reason or another. If there is several available, get the shop owners to recomend one to you. They are like everything else, some are fair, and some are great. Most leases that need members will post it in these places. You are going to love southern hunting. most states have long seasons and liberal bag limits. In my state we have a 4 month gun season, and a bow season that is almost 6 months long, if you hunt the different areas that it is open in. I start bowhunting Sept.20 and bowhunt until Feb. 15 Our limit is 6 deer per year, but if you have a lease that is on the D-map program, you are allotted extra doe tags that do not count against your total for the year. For instance your club may be allotted 40 extra doe tags to be used during that year. I'm sure you are going to love the hunting in NC- good luck!

  3. Hunting public lands in the Carolinas can be a bit crowded in some areas. Many hunt on private property. I own about 75 acres (about 40 miles east of Charlotte) and have 2 hunters who have paid to hunt on it for the past 20 years. When these 2 finally drop out, I won't be adding any new ones. You will just have to look around, search the net, etc. We have some good hunting here in the Piedmont. Good luck.
