Lewis Hamilton is still far from disappointed. Although he has missed the second championship of his life and was only able to finish the 2010 Formula One world championship at 4th place, yet he calls the season to be one of the most exciting
and unforgettable of his entire career.
The British driver, who won the first championship of his career in 2008, and enhanced his reputation by being the youngest world champion in the history of the sport, had to hand over his record to Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull this season. At the age of
23 years and nine months, the new world champion is now the youngest title winner in 60 years of the sport’s history.
The last tough battle fought at the exceptionally beautiful and technically most advanced arenas of the world, the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi gave the triumphant race win to the German. On the other hand, Hamilton wrapped up the round at second place
on the podium followed by his team-mate, Jenson Button.
The entire season has been very dramatic for the McLaren driver. The start of the season saw Hamilton pretty fast on the track although he was not the fastest man. The lucky twist of the season came for him as the Red Bull duo, Mark Webber and Vettel crashed
into each other at the Turkish Grand Prix. The poor collision deprived the team-mates from their certain 1-2 finish granting a perfect ending of the day to the Hamilton and Button who wrapped up the race at the Istanbul Track for 1st and 2nd
places on the podium.
The following race in Canada gave another sparkling finish of the British squad as once again Hamilton ruled the track while Button came next. The journey of success continued for the driver as he elevated himself to the top of the tally replacing the Red
Bull driver, Mark Webber.
The middle of the season proved very good for Hamilton as he kept bagging podiums one after the other, till the summer break. At the Hungarian Grand Prix just ahead of season’s summer break, Webber bagged the fourth victory of the season dropping Hamilton
to second place. The return of the aggressive driver who spent three weeks’ break in much anticipation and unease, was followed by the glorious conquer at the Belgian Grand Prix, grabbing the top of the tally back from Webber.
However, this victory was followed by a series of misfortunes as the driver kept embracing one poor race weekend after the other. The next race at the Monza Track saw him end the race in a very silly move while he tried to overtake Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
The following Singapore Grand Prix was another disappointment for the driver who once again retired without having a single more point.
As the Formula one squad headed for the Japanese Grand Prix another very unfortunate weekend waited for the British driver. However, besides a series of mishaps met him, the driver was finally able to end at fifth place.
Although, at the next race in Korea he managed to end at position two but he had already met a lot of hard luck by then. His shaking place in the tally was further weakened by finishing fourth in Brazil. As he walked out of the Interlagos Circuit, the chocolate
skinned driver proclaimed that now only ‘a miracle’ could grant him the title.
Even tough, Formula one is filled with amusements and surprises but Hamilton’s championship was really a far off call. The last race saw him standing at second place on the podium, but the title was already possessed by Vettel of Red Bull.
Still, the driver is in great spirits and is looking forward for an even stronger 2010 season, for the McLaren team.
