The Deccan Chargers’ skipper, Kumar Sangakkara, has said that four defeats on the trot at the start of the ongoing season five of Indian Premier League have not shattered the morale of the side, rather the winless journey so far has brought the team together.
Speaking to the media reporters ahead of their crucial match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Cuttack, on April 22, the Sri Lankan said that the team is still positive and are geared to give their absolute best to clinch their elusive win on Sunday.
“I think these defeats have brought the team together,” said Sangakkara when asked if the winless status so far has affected the team spirit. “The guys are very positive and we are extremely optimistic about winning here on Sunday,” he added further.
Having played four games so far in the latest instalment of the lucrative Twenty20 league, the Kumar Sangakkara-led Deccan Chargers are yet to win a game. They opened up the campaign with a 74-run crushing at the hands of defending champions Chennai Super
Kings. However, the Chargers showed fighting spirit in their next three games and took it to the last over before losing the game to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils.
Their bowling has been criticized for failing to defend totals like 196 and 157. But Sangakkara expressed satisfaction over his bowlers’ performance so far in the tournament.
“Our bowling is absolutely fine,” said the former Sri Lankan skipper when asked if their bowling was a weak-link.
“I am pretty happy with the efforts of my bowlers. If they can give just five or ten per cent more, we will be able to win the matches,” he added further.
Asked if the new venue will help his side turn the fortunes, the left-handed opening batsman said that his side’s performance was very good and they could have won games, had they capitalized on chances.
“I don’t know whether a change in venue will help us... Out of the four games, we were really good in three…,” said the wicketkeeper batsman. “It is about winning those important moments… we have to be careful that we don’t let those moments slip by,” he
added further.
