Defective exhaust or muffler 1st offense?

So last night I got pulled over and given this ticket, my exhaust is completely legal I have a Greddy Evo II on my 96 Eclipse. Is there some way I can have my car checked to show them its legal and get the ticket dropped? The weird thing is my exhaust is actually really quiet and not ricey sounding at all.

California? Sounds like you were written for 27150CVC.

27150.  (a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive OR UNUSUAL NOISE, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

The way it gets you there is the "unusual noise" part.  Officers can easily testify that your exhaust system is not and does not sound stock and emits an "unusual" noise. Contact the court listed on the letter you'll receive and ask them what the "fix-it" will be for that citation.  Don't worry though, it's not a state ref cite.

Yeah, take it to a shop and have them check it to make sure its legal. Then take that info to the court and show them that it is.

You could have a muffler shop check it and say something like "inspected and found meeting legal requirements" on the work order.

Then, you will have to contest the ticket at the traffic court.
