  1. all your basic greco wrestling moves. one not seen a lot(except karo parisyan) is fighting for a two on one, and then throwing. also doing a quick armdrag.

the tradtional thinking is its dangerous to do these because they leave one of the other guys hand free for a second to hit you, while both of your hands are occupied.

but even when throwing a punch yourself you are open to being hit at least on one side of the body. in other words its a matter of timing and execution, not being totally protected that matters.

I am no MMA fighter but sparring these guys I armdrag and two on one them at will. if you are fast they are too busy trying to pull out to hit you properly anyway.

  2. There are several throws and takedowns that can be used to defend the clinch.

Mike Swain and Chuck Jefferson wrote the definitive book covering this subject in Clinch Fighting For Mixed Martial Arts. Mike Swain is a 5x Olympian and World Judo Champion. Chuck Jefferson is a multiple National and Pan American gold medalist, and a World Judo Team Member.

They include forward throws, rear throws, leg picks, leg sweeps, leg takedowns, pickups, and armlock takedowns in their look at this subject. They teach you the correct holds and stances as well.

Some of the throws include their modified versions of o soto gari, o uchi gari, drop knee seoinage, uchimata, sasae tsurikomi ashi. There are lot more techniques that they show in detail.

  3. One technique that I have recently learned, is that when you are caught in a clinch (free standing, not against the ropes/wall).  Wait for the opponent to strike you with a rising knee, twist you body to the side and lift the knee with the arm furthest away from your opponent.  With the arm closest to your opponent reach up for his face.  Then all at the same time, lift the knee, pull down on the head and kick the supporting leg.

    Hope this helps mate:-)

  4. go to youtube and watch Karo Parisyan's Judo for MMA

  5. It's never complicated although every one wants it to be.  Simply pull in on the opponent's lower back while pressing your chin into his chest....he'll fall guaranteed.  KEEP IT SIMPLE my MMA friends.  it's always the simplest moves that win the fight and that's no lie.  What do you do when some one puts their forearm into your adam's apple?  ....easy....just turn your head and relief the pressure....pretty simple.  The little-est movements.

Let's not lose sight of what "The Gentle Art" is all about just because we want to complicate things huh?
