Defender Alex says Chelsea are playing like Brazil
Chelsea defender Rodrigo Alex Dias da Costa (‘Alex’) has hailed his team-mates performances this season, claiming that they are playing with the same attacking mentality which the Brazil national team uses.
The English Premier League champions have got the 2010-11 season off to a strong start, winning seven, drawing one and losing just one game so far. They are sitting proudly at the top of the table, five points clear of Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester
City.
They have also been in fine form in front of goal, having netted 25 goals already and conceding just two.
That has led to Alex proclaiming that his club play just like his national team. However, he claimed that Chelsea were even better as they have a much sterner defence than any found in his South American homeland.
'More composure in defence'
The 28-year-old told his club’s official magazine that: "The way we've been playing throughout this year. I'd liken us to Brazil. Brazilian teams have the same mentality. They just want to attack. However, there is one difference — here we try to have more
composure in defence."
The Blues got the new season off to a flying start when they earned successive 6-0 victories over West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic. The winning streak continued with wins over Stoke and West Ham United, where they conceded for the first time in a
3-1 victory.
The good form continued with a 4-0 win over Blackpool, but they stuttered at Eastlands, where they lost 1-0 to Manchester City. A big 2-0 win against Arsenal got the title charge on track once more, before a draw with Aston Villa and victory over Wolverhampton
Wanderers
Chelsea’s strong domestic form translated onto the European stage, where they have won all three of their UEFA Champions League matches against MSK Zilina, Marseille and Spartak Moscow.

However, they slipped up in the Carling Cup, where they were defeated 4-3 by Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.
