Defender claims Manchester City are no one-man team
Manchester City defender Micah Richards says that the English Premier League club are no one-man team.
Strong performances by captain Carlos Tevez this season have led several of the club's detractors to label Roberto Mancini's men as a team made up of the Argentinian striker and 10 others.
Tevez has been in good form for the Citizens this season, scoring seven of the side's 15 EPL goals so far and proving to be an important player in their quest to finish in a UEFA Champions League qualification place.
However, England international Richards says that all of the other players on the pitch were just as important as hitman Tevez.
Richards told Sky Sports News that: "Carlos is a striker, he scores goals. Adam Johnson is a provider, so he provides, along with David Silva. (Nigel) De Jong and Gareth Barry do the running around for the team, so everyone has a job. Sometimes we get called
a one-man team, but there are other players in the team who do a fantastic job as well."
Though Tevez has been a consistent goalscorer for the EPL big spenders, he has not been able to help City claim wins in any of their last two games. The derby against local rivals Manchester United at the City of Manchester stadium on Wednesday 10 November
ended in a goalless draw, as did the clash with Birmingham City at St Andrews on Saturday 13 November.
As a result, Richards has called on the rest of the first-team players to start chipping in with more goals, but claimed that he was pleased with having kept the opposition at bay in the last three fixtures.
He added that: "We need to score a few more goals but we have had three clean sheets in our last three games, so we are happy and are moving in the right direction. We are doing a bit better than last season and the Champions League is our aim."
