Defender was “literally trying to break my arm” – Detroit Lions' quarterback Shaun Hill
Detroit Lions quarterback Shaun Hill claimed that a New England Patriots defender purposely tried to break his arm during Thursday 26 November’s afternoon Thanksgiving game.
The incident occurred with just over six minutes to play in the second quarter. The Detroit Lions were on the Patriots two-yard line, and Hill attempted to run the ball into the end zone. In the ensuing scrum, Hill attempted to extend his arms past the goal
line.
"Somebody was down there (in the pile) literally trying to break my arm, which is already broken. Literally, trying. And, uh, y'know, I guess wasn't seen (by officials)," Hill revealed to Mlive.com. "That's why I eventually gave up the ball."
Hill, now in his ninth season, broke his left forearm in a game October 17th against the New York Giants. He has yet to fully recover from the injury (which is to his non-throwing arm). Hill has been the Lions’ starter while Matthew Stafford recovers
from his second shoulder injury of the season.
The Patriots refused to comment on Hill’s remarks. As for Hill’s impressions with the playing-calling of coach Jim Schwartz, "I loved the call. Absolutely loved it. I have no qualms about running that play, one-armed or whatever. I loved the call."
"We're trying to win the football game," said Schwartz.
Hill was 27-of-46, passing for 285 yards with one touchdown while throwing two interceptions.
The Lions put up a valiant effort before eventually falling to the three-time champion Patriots, 45-24. With a strong offensive arsenal, they are no longer the easily beatable pushover team that they have been in season's pass. They are two years removed
from an 0-16 record.
The Lions will face divisional opponent Chicago Bears next Sunday at home. The Lions can play spoiler to the Bears' recent success. Chicago is tied with Green Bay atop the NFC North. Both teams currently sit at 7-3.
