Defending Champion Jutanugarn moves ahead at Girls' Junior
Ariya Jutanugarn won her match against Ashlan Ramsey of the US and secured her place in the quarterfinals of the 64th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.
It was an easy win for Jutanugarn, who defeated Ramsey with an easy score of 8 and 6 in her favour. This is her third victory at the most prestigious event for young female golfers. Earlier, she played against Katelyn Dambaugh, also from the US. She won
with a score of 5 and 4 in her favour.
This string of wins demonstrates the will to win that propelled Jutanugarn into becoming a champion last time. She is very determined to defend her title and go down in history as the third player who successfully defended her title.
In the quarterfinals, she will face Casie Cathrea, the US golfer who set a course record in her match against Karen Chung. Cathrea also won the match with a score of 2 &1 in her favour. So far Jutanugarn has trounced the competition in the initial rounds
with ease.
The quarterfinals are a very different kettle of fish. These rounds pit players of similar level against each other. The fact that Casie Cathrea has risen to the quarterfinals means that she will be a serious threat to Jutanugarn.
Casie Cathrea has played great golf so far. She has won her games with relative ease and faced Karen Chung in her last match. The match turned exciting as both the players were almost equally good. The game went in Cathrea’s favour with a score of 2 and
1.
Even if Jutanugarn manages to beat Cathrea, the hurdles will still remain for the Thai player. She might have to face the formidable Lydia Ko in either the semi-finals or the final. Ko is the current world’s number one and her reputation as a fierce opponent
is well established.
Ko is also moving up the rankings and has made it to the quarter finals. In her last match, she had a tough time defeating the American player Nicole Morales. The score was 2 and 1 in Ko’s favour.
Ariya Jutanugarn has strong motivation to keep performing well in the game. She has a title to defend and she is willing to face any player in the quest.
