Defending Champions, Chicago Blackhawks win 6-4 against the Calgary Flames
The second last game of Wednesday was hosted by the defending champions, Chicago Blackhawks, as they were up against the Calgary Flames at the United Center.
A win for the Hawks was more important considering the fact that the two points would put them in the play-off cut and a point behind the Flames.
The game started off with both teams on fire scoring goals. It was the Hawks who led at the end of the first period.
The Hawks managed to score the lone two goals in the second period. The final period was very exciting with both sides scoring goals but in the end it was the Hawks who won the game 6-4. Jonathan Toews, centre of the Hawks was the star of the game as he
scored two goals during the game.
Both the teams made a decent start to the game which saw them defending and attacking pretty well. Their passing and shooting were very well but no early goals were scored.
The Hawks were successful in scoring in the 7th minute through Jonathan Toews from a decent flick shot.
The Flames also came across some decent pieces of play and when they came across a power play, they were able to score and level the scores. The goal was scored by Alex Tanguay from a powerful strike that went flying into the back of the net.
The chances kept on coming for both teams but it was the Hawks who scored through Michael Frolik in the 19th minute to get back into the lead.
The period ended with the Hawks leading 2-1. During the course of the period, the Hawks made 10 goal attempts while the Flames made 9 goal attempts.
The second period started off with the Hawks maintaining a very tight defence which didn’t allow the Flames to near the goal.
The Flames desperately tried to attack and score goals but this didn’t happen. In fact it was the Hawks who came up with a lot of fire in the attacks and scored through Brian Campbell during power play to double their lead.
The Hawks kept on piling the pressure and scored once again in the very next minute to further extend their lead. The goal was scored by Jonathan Toews from a decent flick shot. There was nothing much else to comment about as the period ended with the Hawks
leading 4-1 in the end. The Flames made six goal attempts during the period while the Hawks made 9 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Flames shot their firepower as they scored two goals in the 2nd and 9th minutes to trail by a single goal. The goals were scored by Rene Bourque and Captain Jarome Iginla.
However, the joy was short-lived as Dave Bolland scored for the Hawks to pull ahead of the Flames by two goals.
Both teams continued with the attacks which resulted in the Rene Bourque scoring his second goal and to trail by a goal in the 17th minute.
However, the Hawks sealed the game as they scored in the final minute through Marian Hossa to win the game 6-4 in the end. The Flames made 10 goal attempts during the period while the Hawks made 11 goal attempts.
