Defending champ Stacy Lewis gets off to sloppy start in Kraft Nabisco Championship

Defending champion Stacy Lewis got off to an unimpressive start in the first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship 2012, as she scored a 2-over 74 to stand tied at the 60th position.
Stacy Lewis, who won the last edition of the major championship, faltered on most of the holes at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage.
The American star faced tough resistance from her competitors, as the roster is featuring competent players, such as the current world number one Yani Tseng and Paula Creamer.
Lewis’ fans and the spectators on the course had pinned hopes on the defending champion before the event.
She outperformed Yani Tseng last year to grab her first major title on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
Lewis kicked off the first round by parring 5 consecutive holes. Despite good weather conditions that helped players score well, she had trouble making solid putts.
She faltered due to her misjudgment and made four straight bogeys. She picked up pace on the back nine and tried to atone for the lapses she made early on.
She came off well on the difficult par-3 13th hole and drained a birdie. She maintained her form on the next hole as well, recording her second birdie of the day.
Before entering the tournament, Lewis had vowed to do her best in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She said that she desperately sought to record the second major triumph in a row.
She also stated that she had been training hard for the last few months and has managed to fix errors in her putting.
Giving an interview to the media, she said that she was more than happy that she was able to outperform the current world number one Yani Tseng in a major event.
According to her, recording wins in big events helps her boost confidence and the Kraft Nabisco Championship is special for her due to her first major triumph.
"I've still gotten in some good practice," said Lewis. "I've still had enough time to get my work in. For me, it's just making sure I get home and get my rest in".
She added, "But I feel good about my game. I feel I don't have to do a lot to prepare".
