Defending champion, Adrian Lewis, geared for another title
Current defending champion, Adrian Lewis, cruised his way into the quarter final of PDC World Championship 2012 after destructively defeating his opponent Wayne Jones by 4-0.
Luck was once again able to shine with the Jackpot, as after a not so impressive record in the championship so far, he was seen in his complete momentum after scoring 67% of his scores on his doubles.
At the beginning of the second set, it was Jones who was trying to strengthen his position in the game by hitting consecutive eight doubles and preventing Lewis from capitalising on any of his errors.
Nevertheless, it was in the third set when the Wolverhampton guy was leading the game with 2-1.
Lewis, as is known for his quality of making tremendous returns, fired back. With a 109 checkout, he was able to level the game and bring it back on the track where he could conveniently win it from.
From here onwards, Jones could not control his nerve on the game which provided Lewis the opportunity he could easily take advantage of, securing and stabilising his position in the quarter finals of the mega event.
With the help of 45 darts in the opening set, Lewis was able to maintain his winning streak by checking out at 106 in the second leg of the game.
However, this was not as easy as it seemed for Lewis, as he experienced a fumble in his confidence at certain stages of the game.
In his post match interview to Sky Sports, Lewis said, "In the practice room I was hitting 180s for fun, then I couldn't hit one up there. But I couldn't hit a double in practice, and then up there you can see what I'm capable of (doing)".
It is also important to mention here that Lewis, like every other fan of darts, expressed great shock on Phil Taylor’s disqualification.
He also said that his chances for maintaining his top seed position have brightened since ‘the Power’ is no more there in the game.
Jackpot will be encountering ‘the bull’ of darts, Terry Jenkins, in the next stage. Jenkins made his way in the game after showing Justin Pipe the exit door in the last round.
