Defending champion, Ana Ivanovic earns first wildcard for Bali event – Tennis News
Defending Champion, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia becomes the first wildcard entrant in the 2011 Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions. She will make her comeback in the tournament that will feature eight elite performers of International
WTA tournaments of the season. Ivanovic is the current title holder for this tournament and will have to defend her title in November this year. The season-ending tournament will take place in Bali, the most beautiful city of Indonesia.
The Serbian international is reported to have said that Bali is the most beautiful, in fact the best city of the tennis circuit. She enjoyed her stay in Bali last year during the tournament and said that she had never experienced
a mesmerizing beach than Bali and loves to hang out there after the match to relax herself. She had a memorable run in the Bali tournament last year and was crowned champion after she won a thrilling encounter with Alisa Kleybanova.
Former World No.1 said “"It's a great thrill for me to come back and try and win the tournament again. I remember last year we had an exciting atmosphere at each match and I'm sure it's going to be another great event."
The president director of Commonwealth Bank Indonesia, Tony Costa said that the organizing committee are really excited to see Ivanovic featuring in this tournament because a person with such a pleasant personality and immense
tennis talent will definitely give the viewers their value for money.
Tournament director, Kevin Livesey further added, “Ana is very popular in Bali and when she requested a wildcard and we were very happy to agree. We have a very interesting line-up of champions: Strong, Beautiful and Winner. Tickets
are already more than 50% sold. Last year tickets were sold out two weeks before the tournament. We anticipate the same this year”.
Ivanovic recently incurred a left-thigh injury recently in the quarter-finals of China Open and had to retire from the match. This is the concern for Serbian’s fans because Bali tournament is scheduled to take place from November
3rd to 6thand if she is unable to recover, she would not be 100% fit to play in that tournament.
The tournament will take place in Bali International Convention Centre featuring the best WTA players and promising future champions who did not qualify for the year end championship in Istanbul. The glamorous defending champion
wants to double her delight on her 24th birthday by retaining her title and becoming the first ever woman to win the tournament in succession. The prize money for this tournament is $600,000.
