Defending champion Bo Van Pelt glad to be back at the CIMB Classic
Bo Van Pelt, who is going to defend his title at the upcoming CIMB Classic at The Mines Resort and Golf Club, is glad to be back to Kuala Lumpur once again.
Talking to the reporters at the venue course, he said that he will try his best to perform well when he tees off this Thursday.
The co-sanctioned tournament by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour is scheduled from October 25 to 28, with a solid roster packed with most of the top-ranked contenders.
Pelt, who has been performing well right from the beginning of the 2012 season, is currently the hot favourite for a win this week because of his victory at the Perth International last week.
Sharing his thoughts with the media on Tuesday, the American said that he was in high spirits after he raised the trophy last week.
Therefore, he will enter this week’s tournament with a boosted morale, which will help him defend his title successfully. He also relished the opportunity to defend his title for the first time in his career.
“This is my first chance I've ever had to defend. I've only won a few tournaments. When I won on Nationwide (the secondary circuit in the US), the year after I was on the (PGA) Tour, and when I won in Milwaukee (2009), that tournament went away. This is
a first for me, so I'm excited,” said Van Pelt, who is ranked 23rd in the world.
So far in the 2012 PGA Tour season, the American has recorded a total of 10 top-10 finishes. At the AT&T National, he almost clinched his first PGA Tour win of the season.
However, the legendary Tiger Woods did not allow that to happen and Van Pelt settled for the second spot on the leaderboard.
This week, Van Pelt will be featured among the 48 players participating in the event – 30 from the PGA Tour and 10 from the Asian Tour along with eight sponsor exemptions.
The world number two Tiger Woods, number nine Jason Dufner, Asian Tour Order of Merit leader Thaworn Wiratchant and many other big guns have already confirmed to participate in the event.
