Defending champion Choi says she has several "good memories" of Sime Darby LPGA
With all the hype and passion for the upcoming Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012, defending champion Na Yeon Choi has vowed to steal the show once again, saying she is in high spirits.
Pumped up by the appreciation from fans and tournament officials, Choi is ready to cut her rivals down to size like she did last year as her confidence has already spiralled thanks to her major victory at the US Women’s Open 2012.
Sharing her thoughts while speaking to the media ahead of the LGPA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, the South Korean star said she has always liked to play this tournament, not just because of her victory and good performance, but also because of the rich field and course.
The Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 is scheduled for October 11, and will be played at the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
Choi said that her last year’s triumph at Kuala Lumpur is the biggest motivating factor as she still relishes the moments when she capped off the event with a huge score, beating some of the best stars in women’s golf.
“I have many good memories of the Sime Darby LPGA and hopefully that will help me play well again,” the LPGA titan said.
Choi went on to say that she has always loved to play in Asia, and Malaysia is one of the hot spots in the region. She said she is sure to get plenty of support from the fans at Kuala Lumpur, which is something she needs to keep her momentum going.
“It’s nice playing in Asia, the fans are great and very supportive".
Observers said no matter how confident Choi may be feeling at the moment, the 2012 field is going to stage a far tougher battle than last year as players are now more eager to record good finishes keeping in mind that the current season is coming to a close.
In addition to Asian players, who are being regarded as hot favourites for the $1.9 million tournament, a stronger-than-before American line-up will also be trying to take the title to the United States.
Stacy Lewis, the best player in the United States right now, is happy to see her name in the roster and she is able to do something amazing this year.
