Defending champions San Francisco Giants Manager Bruce Bochy wants 2011 World Series title
San Francisco Giants Manager Bruce Bochy has advised his players attending the spring training session at Scottsdale Stadium to move ahead for new challenges in the 2011 season.
“I do think Spring Training will be good for that; to give the guys time to realise how important it is for us to get ready for this year,” Bochy said on Thursday. “Even though there's still going to be some hoopla and celebration here at times, in the back
of their minds they have to realise that they have work to do. Like I said earlier, it's a new year."
He made this statement because reminders of the Club’s World Series win were present everywhere at Scottsdale Stadium congratulating the Giants. Bruce Bochy has told the players to work hard and emerge a more powerful team instead of looking back at 2010
and feeling proud.
The Giants will start their Cactus League schedule against Arizona Diamondbacks today (Friday) where Tim Lincecum, nominated starter for open day on 31 March, will be on the mound. To meet the challenges, the franchise has scheduled its pitchers and catchers
along with position players to practice at Scottsdale. Among the players at the practice session were Madison Bumgarner, Javier Lopez Lincecum and Minor League Star Steve Edlesfsen who were accompanied by Starting Pitcher Tim Lincecum. Tim showed his determination
to get in momentum before the start of the 162-game competition at Chavez Ravine.
“I want to get to my pitch count, but not through one inning,” Lincecum said. “Other than that, I'll just try to be effective with all my pitches.”
Bochy said he has the line-up he wanted and that includes players able to create upsets against strong competitors like Arizona. He said that left-hander Pat Burrell, Shortstop Miguel Tejada and right-fielder Cody Ross were likely to open the game against
Arizona.
The club has tried some changes in their line-up by putting regular centre-fielder Andres Torres to designated hitter position. Bochy said Aaron Rowand would replace him in the centre.
Mark DeRosa has been lined-up at second base until Freddy Sanchez recovers from his left shoulder surgery. Bochy said that although DeRosa had not recovered completely from his wrist surgeries that he had in the last nine months, but he has been fielded
because he has shown strong determination.
All we have to see now is how the players intend to fulfil Bochy’s expectations.
