Defending champion Luna fails to give a tough time to rivals at German Open
The defending champion Diana Luna, who sought to maintain her upper hand in the Unicredit Ladies German Open 2012, could not prove to be a tough contender, as she finished tied for 15th at the end
of the prestigious tournament.
The tournament held at Golfpark Gut Hausern turned into nerve-racking battle when most of the top-ranked contenders tumbled to lower positions in the final round.
With Laura Davies and other battle-hardened players in the roster, the event managed to attract a huge number of spectators.

However, the defending champion, who belongs to Italy, could not grab attention due to an average game.
Luna kicked off the round in an impressive style, as she posted a 69 in the opening round. She kept the momentum going in the second round as well, as she registered a 71.
The weather conditions remained stable, helping contenders to play balanced strokes. However, Luna appeared to be in trouble after the second round. She messed up her hard-earned position when she recorded
a 72 in the third round; giving her rivals enough room to surge ahead.
When the Italian star opened the round, she was being considered as the hot favourite to win the title once again. She proved her mettle by shooting three birdies and one eagle.

Despite getting off to a superb start, analysts said, Luna’s mistakes on some of the holes exposed some fatal flaws in her putting.
They said that the defending champ would have piled up a big score if she avoided bogeys in the third round.
Another previous winner of the Unicredit Ladies German Open, Laura Davies, played a considerably better game. She battled French Anne-Lise Caudal in playoff, but lost the match after she missed her birdie-putt.
Luna exhibited a flawless performance in the last edition of the German Open, as she posted 67, 67, 65 and 65 in the four rounds. Speaking to the media before the 2012 edition, the 29-year-old golfer had said
that she would be keeping an eye on her mistakes, despite her stunning performance in the 2011 season.
The Italian prodigy has been a strong contender on the LET, as she has racked up 5 victories so far.  In addition to proving her worth at the German Open, she also won Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open.
