Defending champion struggling after round 1of the Evian Masters
The first round of the Evian Masters is over and the news is not very encouraging for the defending champion Ai Miyazato.
She scored 71 points and is currently tied for the 24th position. She is in great company though, with Brittany Lang, Lindsey Wright, Cristie Kerr and Tiger Woods's niece Cheyenne Woods, joining her at the end of the round.
What does this performance mean for Ai Miyazato and her chances for a third time win at the Evian Masters?
Not many players manage to recover from such a low ranking and go on to capture the top positions of any tournament. Moreover, to compound Miyazato’s troubles, many top notch players are also in the race for the trophy.
However, the player under consideration is Ai Miyazato, the super golfer from Japan. She has an excellent record so far, with two titles to her credit during this year.
She is on top of her game with an additional eight top-10 finishes in 2012. Experts say that this kind of performance almost guarantees a comeback for Miyazato.
Miyazato was very hopeful for a win at the Evian Masters. Talking to the press before the tournament she said, “This year has been good. I've already won twice and feeling very confident about my game. Evian has so many good memories for me. It's just the
best place. So beautiful and it's the perfect venue for golf tournament, so it's always fun to stay here”.
Even if Miyazato recovers her form, she has to face tough competition on her way to grabbing the trophy. The top performers of the first round already have a head start and Miyazato has to overcome their lead of the first round in order to match their score
in the second round.
2012 has been very kind to Miyazato. She has performed exceptionally well. Her golf skills are beyond doubt laudable and the confidence that she has gained over the year will carry her forward in the event.
Stacy Lewis is already at the number one position in the Evian Masters, with Hee Young Park coming up in the second spot.
