Defending champions Chicago Blackhawks lose crucial game 4-3 against the Columbus Blue Jackets
The final game of Friday was played at the United Centre, home of the Chicago Blackhawks as they were up against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Both teams were looking for a win so as to strength their chances of making into the play-offs.
The Blue Jackets took the lead scoring the first goal of the game. However, the Hawks were able to make a come-back that saw them leading at the end of the first period. The Blue Jackets stepped up their game and scored a couple of goals in the second period.
The final period didn’t see any goals as the Blue Jackets pulled themselves level on points with the Hawks after the win. RJ Umberger of the Blue Jackets was named the star of the game for coming up with two important assists.
Both the teams made a decent start to the game as they fired shots on goal and created some brilliant chances for themselves. It wasn’t long till we saw the first shot on goal after which the teams piled up shots after shots.
The Blue Jackets successfully took the lead with Matt Calvert scoring in the 6th minute. The goal was scored through a brilliant backhand shot. However, the Hawks were able to make their way back into the game as they scored in the 8th
minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Patrick Sharp from a brilliant flick shot.
A few minutes later, Sharp scored once again to put the Hawks into the lead. Both teams continued to pile pressure on the opposing defence as came across numerous scoring chances but they weren’t able to find the back of the net. The period ended with the
Hawks leading 2-1 as they made 13 goal attempts in the period while Blue Jackets made 12 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams exploding right from the start. There were several shots on goal but none of them found the back of the net. The Blue Jacket was successful in scoring in the 10th minute through Antoine Vermette during power play
to level the scores.
Both teams continued with their attacking approach to the game but it was Blue Jackets who productive once again as they scored in the 13th minute to get into the lead through Derek McKenzie’s backhand shot. Chances kept on coming and the final
two goals of the period were scored in the 16th minute.
The first goal was scored by Anton Stralman from a powerful strike in favour of the Blue Jackets while the second was scored by Patrick Kane to give the home fans something to cheer about. The period ended with both teams making 17 goal attempts each during
the 20 minutes of play as the Blue Jackets led 4-3 going into the break.
The final period saw both teams coming up with quite a few shots on goal but they weren’t able to come up with any goals. Though both teams had some easy scoring chances but they failed to put them in the net.
As a result, the Blue Jackets won the game 4-3 in the end. During the course of the final period the Blue Jackets made 7 goal attempts while the Hawks made 10 goal attempts.
