Defending champions Chicago Blackhawks win 4-1 against struggling Edmonton Oilers

The second last game of Wednesday saw the struggling Edmonton Oilers play host the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks who are starting to find some form. The game took place at the Rexall Palace with quite a few fans coming to witness the game.
Both teams played the 54th game of their respective season with this being the 814th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. Chicago Blackhawks controlled the pace of the game right from the start and scored in each of the period
with two goals in the final one. Their defence was tight and allowed only one goal as the period ended with Hawks winning 4-1. Jonathan Toews, centre of the Hawks was named the player of the game after he made two splendid assists.
Edmonton Oilers made decent start to the game which was expected given the fact that they were playing on home. However, it didn’t take long for the Hawks to settle down as the Oilers didn’t impose much threat to them early on.
Pin point passing and excellent pieces of play were the main essence of Hawks play which enabled them to come nearing scoring every now and then. Hawks finally managed to get into the lead with a goal in the 11th minute scored by Patrick Sharp
from a brilliant shot that caught the goalie by surprise. Hawks continued to attacks till the dying stages of the period but unfortunately couldn’t score any further goals.
The period ended with Hawks maintaining a slender one goal lead as they made 10 goal attempts in the period while Edmonton Oilers made 4 goal attempts.
The second period saw the defending champions continuing with the same game play that they displayed in the previous period. Their passing got better and shooting accuracy also increased. However, they caught the Oilers defence sleeping in the 6th
minute and scored through Brian Bickell from a superb backhand shot to double their lead.
Oilers put the foot on the gas but unfortunately couldn’t score and the period ended with both teams making 12 goal attempts during the course of the period. However, it was Chicago Blackhawks who led 2-0 with just 20 minutes of play left.
The final 20 minutes of play were seen as defence dominated with Oilers being the winners in terms of more goal attempts. However, when it came to productivity then it was Hawks who scored twice compared to the one goal scored by Oilers to seal the game.
The first goal of the period was scored by Patrick Kane in the 6th minute from a brilliant strike to establish two goals lead to their advantage. Oilers with some brilliant pieces of play managed to score later on in the 17th minute
through Jordan Eberle from a decent strike.
But it was Hawks who struck the final blow scoring through productive Patrick Kane once again in the final minute from a well placed flick shot.
The period saw Hawks making 4 goal attempts and the Oilers making 8 goal attempts with Chicago Blackhawks comfortably winning the game 4-1.
