Defending champions Chicago Blackhawks win 5-0 against Vancouver Canucks – NHL playoffs
The current favourites to win the Stanley Cup, Vancouver Canucks hosted the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks at the Rogers Arena on Thursday which the Hawks won 5-0 in the end.
The Canucks were leading the series 3-1 and were one win away from the semi-finals. The Hawks on the other hand needed the win to stay in the running. The Hawks came out strong in the game and bagged another dominating performance to win 5-0 in the end.
This has effectively cut down Canucks lead in the series to 3-2 with the next game on Hawks ice.
The game started off with both teams attacking and the Hawks scored two early goals to get into a comfortable position. Both teams continued to attack and it was the Hawks who scored once again to end the period with a strong 3-0 lead. The second period
followed the pattern and once again it was the Hawks who scored twice early in the period to extend their lead even further. The Canucks were on top during the course of the final 20 minutes of play but they were unable to find the back of net like their opponents.
The period and the game ended with the Hawks winning 5-0 while Duncan Keith was named the Star of the Game for his two goals and two assists.
The Hawks were on fire at the start of the game and piled up shots on goal every now and then. The Hawks came across a power-play early on and capitalised from it by scoring in the sixth minute through Marian Hossa.
The Hawks continued to attack and scored once again through Duncan Keith to double the advantage. Both teams piled up shots on goal but like before, it was the Hawks who scored through Patrick Kane.
The period ended with the Hawks leading 3-0 with both teams making 10 shots on goal.
The Hawks were on target once again as they scored through Hossa from a well-placed flick shot. The Hawks scored one more time to further extend the lead through Keith. The period ended with the Hawks leading 5-0 in the end.
During the course of the period, the Hawks made 10 shots on goal while the Canucks made 11.
The Hawks continued to attack with the Canucks getting better with the passage of time but they were unable to score.
There were no goals in the period and it was the Hawks who won the game 5-0 in the end. They made 6 shots on goal while the Canucks made 15 of those in the last period.
