Question:

Defending myself ?

So, I figure.. theres tons of well, and beyond well educated people on here.

So, I´ll ask...

Where can I learn some quick defense moves... like... if someone were to swing at me randomly during a confrontation that couldnt be walked away from.. or if someone grabbed me... you know that move, where you grab their left hand, and their head, disable them by doing so and push their face into a table like object ?..

How about other defense moves ?

Possible free online tuts, advice ?

How about PRESSURE point info ?

Please no karate suggestions.. or punching bag(s)..

Thank you in advance.

  1. Forget abot it. Work on your sprinting skills.

  2. It looks like to me you are trying to learn a Martial Art online lolz. That's not going to happen, go to a martial art school and learn hands on.

  3. Unfortunately, you usually need to learn self defense techniques hands-on to be able to effectively defend yourself. A groin shot, a throat strike, or an eye strike are generally effective at defending yourself.

  4. Well my team has a blog page at http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseac... which will have a ton of Tactical MMA ( Self-defense MMA ) videos on it in the near future.  I have already posted a video on this page for "street techniques" with the chucks that most Sifu's don't even have a clue about.  My team will be adding both weapons based and jujitsu style self defense videos for street defense to this blog page within the next week or so.  You can always check it out from time to time for some "free technique know how and instruction".

  5. My suggestion:

Try Krav Maga. You can watch some demos on Youtube. It is very easy to learn and is highly effective.

As far as learning online- well, I dont know about that. It's ok to get an idea but to really learn it, I think you need to get in a class or private instruction.

In an actual self defense situation, the chances of you landing any pressure points are pretty slim. It's not a bad thing to learn but I wouldn't rely on it.

Above all, try to be open to anything that will work. Sometimes all you need is a rock, sometimes you need a soft release, sometimes you need an elbow to their face.

  6. usually expect a big right hook in the beggining. so try to dodge that or block also. if you got on youtoube type in fight tips and you should tyoe in how to fight. i dont rcommend groin shots because that will get people jumped.

  7. stay away from traditional arts if you want fast results.

go with modern self defense oriented arts like jeet kune do, krav maga, or some other kind of military/police inspired system.

stay away from pressure points..you have to learn a martial art to use them ...and even then they dont work half the time.

punching bags are great lol ....seriously though you have to study something...you cant just learn a couple moves and hope to have a snowballs chance in h**l of defending yourself.

the key is to avoid the situation...but if it cant be avoided...you should see the attack coming...keep some distance between you and your "attacker"

you can't learn "that move where..." without training.

on a more traditional front...the kenpo taught at www.karateconnection.com is pretty good actually, and very easy to learn and apply quickly.

again, if someone grabs you...you already ignored alot of steps!! dont let them grab you in the first place....if they do..dont try to get their hands off of you...because they just took away two of their weapons...which street thugs use 99%of the time...their hands. (in an unarmed situation that is)

    remember your main ideas...

1: interrupt the focus (distraction)....take their mind off of attacking you. a quick slap, quick shin kick...or begging and pleading can do this. while you're begging for your life ...they will often times tell you...'i dont give a d**n about you ...give me your wallet" or whatever....right when they start talking...that means he is focusing on talking, not on grabbing you....hit him right then and dont stop til he's on the ground and you can escape.

2: interrupt his breathing...hit him in the throat or solar plexus

3: interrupt his sight...poke him in the eyes...or dig your thumbs in his eyes

4: interrupt his balance...kick or knee to the groin....or stomp the back or side of his knee....he will be off balance...and thus...weak and cannot fight you. (this can also be used as #1 ,,a distraction)

these dont necessarily have to be done in order...just some main ideas without having to show you this or that technique.  read this over and over...write them down 4 or 5 times. so youll retain the info better.

understand these principles and technique is of relatively little importance! you can learn that later.

last step....get the h**l outta dodge. go home. go somewhere else...whatever..just dont stay there. he may have friends nearby. he may get up mad as h**l. you dont want to be there. you do not and should not stand there and fight with the man to prove you're tough.

one more thing...sometimes taking his balance will make him fall...dont follow him to the ground for gods sake. its suicide...if he has a hidden weapon or buddies...you're dead.

if its a gun to your head...just do what he wants because you dont know any disarms. your best bet is to simply comply with his wishes.

if its a knife...rule #1 you're probably going to be cut...so expect it

rule #2...if you can...even if you get cut (see rule #1) ...grab the hand holding the knife and dont let go no matter how bad you are bleeding. and hit, kick, stomp, knee, elbow, bite, rip, tear, and claw the sumb*tch til he drops it...and again...

    get the h**l outta dodge.

just some basic thoughts that will help you NOW...not a few years from now.

  8. 1. Step away from a punch and run like crazy.

    2. If someone grabs your arm, etc...Grasp the little pinky and curl it in your grip, hurts like heck.

    3. Ball your fist up and ram your thumb right where the esophagus joins the soft fleshy part below the jaw and push like the world is going to end.

    4. Knuckle punch the muscle on the forearm right close to the crook of the arm. You have to hit very hard. If that doesn't work knuckle punch the back of the hand very hard.

    5. Last resort, bite the living c**p out of and separate the flesh from a soft, nervy section of the human body.

    6. If none of those work, bye-bye.

  9. Sounds like you are in a hurry so try krav maga as for the numb nuts who advised using the chucks (nunchaku) as a self defense weapon how to you like one of the following?

    Carrying a restricted weapon charges

Assault using a restricted weapon charges

    A charge of maiming

    Being sued

Doing time with a cell mate called bubba who will show you were you can stick your chucks.

Endless lawyer fees that will bankrupt you not to mention fees from a lawsuit. And yes even a criminal can sue you if you use excessive force. You can only use equal force.

One of the things to  look out for on the MCDOJO warning list is clubs that train or advise people to use any martial arts weapon for self defense .They do this to project a "deadly" image to the weak minded and because their empty hand technique is unworkable c**p.
