Question:

Defense against blackmail?

Well, not blackmail technically because there isn't a demand for property or money - but "if you don't do this, I will say this".

Is it often better to just put it out in the open, so the blackmailer has "no power" over you and it comes out on your terms?

BTW, I didn't do anything WRONG such as cheating. It's just arguably embarrassing.

  1. Just ignore the smuck, if they want to blab let them blab away, make a joke of it and move on.

  2. Wait until you are in the same room with the black mailer and someone else, and go over their head by saying what they would say but in your own words, Like "Mom jimmy dared me to take $10 from your purse and then double dared me to spend it," I will pay it back after I come up with a double dare back, OK Just put your own twist one it

  3. Call his bluff.  Don't knuckle under to his demands.

  4. It is better that you get it out in the open.  After a while people won't care. Tell the person go ahead I don't care.

  5. Ignore them. Who needs that c**p*
