Defenseman Jordan Hendry to try out for position with Minnesota Wild –NHL offseason Update
Former member of the 2010 Stanley Cup winning Chicago Blackhawks team, defenseman Jordan Hendry, who was let go after the championship postseason which made history in the National Hockey League (NHL), has accepted to try-out for a position on Minnesota
Wild.
Ever since having been picked up from the college leagues, Hendry has not been able to impress the management of his selection team, Chicago, which ultimately led them to not signing him back once he became an unrestricted free agent in July.
It was learnt through, “The Sports Network” broadcaster, Ryan Rishaug that Hendry will be trying out as he shared an update via social networking website, Twitter.
“Jordan Hendry has accepted a tryout with the Minnesota Wild”, Rishaud tweeted.
The 6-foot, 197 pound defender was selected undrafted by Chicago Blackhawks after playing four consecutive seasons with University of Alaska on their ice hockey team, Alaska Fairbanks in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).
Hendry was not immediately signed on to play with the major league franchise but was rather sent to perform in back-to-back seasons with their minor league affiliate, Norfolk Admirals, in the American Hockey League (AHL).
He potted five points (1 goal, 4 assists) in his first 13 games with Norfolk and improved by shooting 16 points (4 goals, 12 assists) in 80 games played the following season.
The 27-year-old was given a shot during the 2007-2008 regular season to finally play in the major league, but failed to impress by scoring only four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 40n games played and was sent back to the minor league, but this time with
Rockford Icehogs in AHL.
During the past two seasons, the Lanigan, Saskatchewan, Canada native, could not put up either big numbers in regards to scoring or even penalty minutes being a defenseman. He scored eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) during Chicago’s championship season
while playing 43 games and a single goal in last year’s 37 games played.
Next month’s training camp will be a test for the defender as he looks to come back into the major league with a more permanent spot.
