  1. "Replace with" is beforehand.  (ie - replace the circle with the square).

    "Replace by" is afterward.  (ie - the circle was replaced by the square).

  3. Replace with is something you are going to do or are commanded to do, so the switch will be in the future.

    Replaced by is talking about a switch that has already happened.

  4. replace with---------> yet to do.

    after you have done  that becomes replaced by....
