Question:

Deferred Adjudication and Nursing School?

I recently was caught shoplifting at Meijer ($40 in merchandise. Yes. I know it was really, really dumb). I have been to court and plead not guilty and now have a lawyer. I would like to enter nursing school in the near future and I want to know if this will hinder my career plans. If anyone is in a similar situation, please let me know how it worked out for you. I would hate for this sole mistake to haunt me forever. I plan on asking for a pre-trial diversion.

  1. If you are asking for deferred adjudication and are accepted, that will take care of the charge. D.A.  means that when you complete your probation, pay restitution, fines, fees, etc, the complete record of the incident will be expunged. A background check will show nothing.

The most important thing to remember with D.A. is that ALL conditions of your probation must be met. Once it is over, it will take 3 to 4 months for the files to be updated and removed.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you
