Does anyone know the meaning for this name?

I am getting conflicting information.

What I think and hope it means is White Raven.

I think it also is:

Welsh, and the feminine version of Bronwyn.

Can anybody correct me or confirm?

Does anyone speak welsh?

  1. It's a Welsh name and it means: "Beautiful Raven" from the word "bran" and "fair and blessed" from the word "gwen".

    It's a really pretty name too =)

  2. The following information came from www.ancestry.com

    Branwen

Welsh: apparently composed of the elements brân raven + (g)wen, feminine of gwyn white, fair, blessed, holy. Alternatively, it is possible that it is a variant of Bronwen. The story of Branwen, daughter of Llyr, forms the second chapter or “branch” of the Mabinogi: it tells of her beauty and of the conflict on her account between her brother Bran, King of the “Island of the Mighty” (Britain), and her husband Matholwch, King of Ireland.

    hope this helps.
