  1. An area of low pressure that includes hurricanes, typhoons and can include low pressure areas associated with a front.


  2. A cyclone is an area of low pressure around which amazingly heavy, powerful winds, blow counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. This is very rare.

  3. Technically, a cyclone (note lower case lettering) is ANY rotating low pressure area.  In that respect, a tornado is simply one of many different types of cyclones.

    If you are referring to the storm that just struck Myanmar (Burma)  , that was a Cyclone (note capital letter), which is the same thing as a hurricane or typhoon, just named differently due to where it was located.
