A cyclone is an area of low pressure around which amazingly heavy, powerful winds, blow counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. This is very rare.

Technically, a cyclone (note lower case lettering) is ANY rotating low pressure area.  In that respect, a tornado is simply one of many different types of cyclones.

If you are referring to the storm that just struck Myanmar (Burma)  , that was a Cyclone (note capital letter), which is the same thing as a hurricane or typhoon, just named differently due to where it was located.
